01 Scope & Self-Hosting
These Terms apply to use of Lofi, the self-hostable Discord music-bot software published in the Discord-lofi repository by mob5824 (the “Maintainer”), and to any instance actually operated by or for the Maintainer. Lofi can play audio in Discord voice channels and includes an authenticated web dashboard.
Lofi is software that you or another operator install and run. The operator of an independently hosted copy controls its machine, configuration, music sources, access, and data. The Maintainer is not responsible for operating or moderating a copy they do not run. If you do not agree to these Terms for an instance operated by the Maintainer, stop using that instance and ask its operator to disconnect it.
02 The Software
Depending on version and configuration, Lofi can play supported YouTube broadcasts, HTTP(S) radio streams such as SomaFM channels, files from a local music folder, and tracks generated on the host by Studio Lofi. It may provide slash-command controls, per-server settings, playback announcements, autostart, idle disconnect, and a dashboard.
Audio sources and features may change or be unavailable. The bot relays audio to a Discord voice channel; it does not grant a license to any recording, broadcast, composition, platform, or other content.
03 Eligibility & Discord Rules
You must meet Discord’s minimum age requirement and any higher minimum age that applies where you live. You agree to follow applicable law and Discord’s current , , and applicable developer policies.
Discord and other platforms may change their APIs, audio features, policies, or availability. The Maintainer does not control those services or their decisions.
04 Operator Responsibilities
The person or organization running a Lofi instance is responsible for its configuration, security, and use. Operators must:
- Use a Discord bot token they are authorized to use, keep it secret, and grant only permissions needed for the chosen features.
- Secure the host, configuration, local database, dashboard key, logs, and backups. The dashboard listens on the local machine by default; operators who enable remote access are responsible for HTTPS, firewall rules, host restrictions, and credential security.
- Choose lawful audio sources, make sure the instance and its use comply with applicable copyright, public-performance, broadcast, and platform rules, and respond to rights-holder or platform notices.
- Tell server members what the bot does, who can use its controls, and what playback history the instance keeps.
- Stop playback or remove a source if the operator does not have permission to use it.
05 Music & Third-Party Rights
Lofi provides software controls, not music rights. A built-in station, URL, local-file feature, or generated-music feature does not grant a copyright, public-performance, rebroadcast, redistribution, or commercial-use license. You and the instance operator are responsible for determining whether a source and the way it is played are permitted in your location and on the relevant platform.
Do not use Lofi to circumvent access controls, download or redistribute content without permission, or rebroadcast music in violation of a rights holder’s or platform’s terms. Online stations may be interrupted, moved, restricted, or removed. Local audio is supplied by the operator; Studio Lofi generates music on the host.
“Lofi” and the repository name “Discord-lofi” identify this independent software project. The project is not affiliated with or endorsed by Discord, Lofi Girl (formerly ChilledCow), Chillhop, Synthwave Boy, SomaFM, YouTube, Google, or any artist, broadcaster, or rights holder referenced by an audio source.
06 Acceptable Use
You may not use Lofi or an instance operated by the Maintainer to violate law or platform rules; infringe copyright or another person’s rights; harass, threaten, or disrupt others; circumvent access controls or rate limits; probe or interfere with Discord, the dashboard, a host, or another system; or stream content you are not authorized to use.
Do not expose private credentials, deliberately overload the service, or use a custom station URL to probe private or local network services. Operators are responsible for custom sources and for the behavior of people who can control their instance.
07 Permissions & Dashboard
Lofi needs Discord permissions to join and speak in voice channels and to use the slash-command and message features an operator configures. Review requested permissions before inviting a bot. The local web dashboard is protected by a dashboard key and can control playback and settings for the servers connected to that bot.
The Maintainer does not promise that a dashboard configuration is secure for every deployment. Operators are responsible for its network exposure. Do not make a dashboard publicly reachable without appropriate TLS, firewall, host restrictions, and a strong private key.
08 Third Parties & Source Code
Lofi may connect to Discord, YouTube, radio-stream providers, custom station hosts, or other services chosen by an operator. Their services and content have separate terms and privacy practices. The Maintainer does not control or guarantee them.
The Discord-lofi repository includes an MIT License. That license governs the rights it grants for the source code; it does not grant rights to music, Discord, or third-party services and does not replace these Terms. Read the for the version you use.
09 Availability & Changes
Lofi and its audio sources are provided on an “as available” basis. The Maintainer may change, limit, suspend, or discontinue an instance or feature they operate. There is no promise of uninterrupted playback, a particular uptime, or continued access to an external station.
These Terms may be revised by posting an updated version and changing the “Last updated” date. Continued use of an instance operated by the Maintainer after a revision takes effect means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not, stop using that instance.
10 Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LOFI AND RELATED MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. THE MAINTAINER DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE, DASHBOARD, OR AN AUDIO SOURCE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE. NOTHING HERE EXCLUDES A WARRANTY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED.
11 Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE MAINTAINER WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST DATA, LOST PROFITS, SERVICE INTERRUPTION, MUSIC RIGHTS CLAIMS, THIRD-PARTY CONTENT, OR THIRD-PARTY SERVICE CONDUCT ARISING FROM USE OF LOFI. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE LIMITED.
12 Ending Use
A server administrator can remove the bot from a Discord server, and an instance operator can stop their own copy at any time. The Maintainer may suspend an instance they operate for abuse, security, legal, or operational reasons. Removing the bot does not automatically delete local files or listening history. See the for data practices and requests.
